Barry McCarthy with First Data Named 2010 Atlanta Telecom Professional of The Year

Five Hundred Local Telecom Leaders Gather to Honor Industry’s Top Minds


ATLANTA – November 10, 2010 – The Association of Telecom Professionals (ATP), a nonprofit organization dedicated to the continued professional development and network growth of the telecommunications community, presented Barry McCarthy, General Manager, Asia/Pacific, Alliances and Government Solutions, First Data, the 2010 Atlanta Telecom Professional of the Year award at its annual awards gala last night.
 
“It’s a true honor to be recognized with such a distinguished award and to share with the exceptional Mobile Commerce team at First Data,” said McCarthy. “We have made great strides this year toward our vision of migrating everything consumers do with a leather wallet to an electronic wallet stored on a mobile phone. We are especially proud to be recognized for our work on eGiftSocial, an application that allows consumers to deliver gift cards from Facebook to an individual’s phone, and our partnership development of an NFC-enabled microSD card. This award is both affirmation of First Data’s work in the mobile commerce space as well as our decision to make Atlanta our new home.”

Over 500 of Atlanta’s most influential telecommunications executives, including 30 CIOs and a number of CEOs, attended the event kicked off by special guest speaker David Nour, author, social networking strategist, and one of the foremost thought leaders on the quantifiable value of business relationships. Jane Hennessy, COMSYS, a Manpower Company, Chaired the event.

During the evening ATP also honored:
2010 ATP Enterprise Leadership Award: Lisa McVey, CIO, McKesson Technology Solutions.
“This is truly an honor—for me and for McKesson Technology Solutions. Our business is all about leveraging leading-edge technologies to help our customers create a safer, higher quality healthcare system. We innovate to improve how our employees work as well as enhance our customers’ experience with McKesson. We are thrilled with this prestigious recognition.”


2010 ATP Enterprise Innovation Award: Bert DuMars, Vice President of e-Business and Interactive Marketing, Newell Rubbermaid.

“I am grateful for this honor, which I share with the entire Newell Rubbermaid team,” said DuMars. “Over the past year my team has worked with our global business units and corporate functional teams to deliver new websites, social media marketing programs, a new global intranet, and many digital marketing programs.  I am sincerely grateful to the Association of Telecom Professionals for this recognition.”

2010 ATP Industry Innovation Award: Tom Noonan, President and CEO, JouleX.
“Being a young company, we are honored to receive this award,” Noonan said. “Our JouleX team is extremely passionate about our enterprise solution for sustainable energy management and has worked tirelessly to inspire people and businesses to embrace how our technology can truly impact the environment and save energy.” Noonan goes on to say, “The energy industry is $7 trillion a year and is ripe for innovation. 2010 ATP Industry Leadership Award: Wanda Satryb, Vice President, Business Customer Service and Technical Support, Sprint Nextel.
