Mike Potts
AirDefense

Mike Potts is a 25 year industry veteran and sits on a number of boards and advisory boards in the tech industry. Most recently he served as president and CEO of AirDefense and oversaw the break through wireless security growth of 300% in 2.5 years and the strategic acquisition of the company by Motorola (NYSE:MOT) in September 2008. Previously, Potts served as CEO of Clickfox, an analytic solutions provider and as President of Jacada (NASDAQ: JCDA), a software integration company that he helped grow from one hundred thousand to over 25 million in revenue and successfully complete the company’s IPO on NASDAQ. Prior to that, he spent seven years at MSA, a financial application software company subsequently acquired by Dun and Bradstreet (NYSE: DNB).

Mike received his BBA from the University of Georgia in 1984 with a Major in Marketing.

 

 

Glenn McGonnigle
TechOperators

McGonnigle was most recently Chairman and CEO of Atlanta-based VistaScape Security Systems, a leading provider of enterprise intelligent video surveillance software. McGonnigle was recruited by the company’s board to raise capital and grow the business. He subsequently oversaw the successful sale of the company to Siemens Building Technologies. An authority on IT and physical security convergence and a frequent contributor and expert speaker for numerous industry publications and events, McGonnigle helped shape President Bush’s 2005 National Strategy for Maritime Security.

Previously, McGonnigle was a co-founder and top executive of Atlanta-based Internet Security Systems (ISS) where he helped raise initial venture capital and launch the business. For 7 years, he led the business development team in developing sales channels and entering the managed security services market. During his tenure, the company grew from startup to revenues of over $225 million and was recently acquired by IBM for $1.5 billion.

Prior to ISS, he was President and co-founder of Data Integrity Services Corporation, an early-stage provider of WAN-based data management services. Throughout his 24 year career, McGonnigle has remained focused on emerging technologies and has held a variety of sales and marketing executive positions during the high growth stages of EMC, Epoch Systems, Borland, and Wang Laboratories.

He is an active member of the Technology Association of Georgia (TAG) and sits on the advisory boards of Venture Atlanta and Georgia Tech’s Tennenbaum Institute. In addition, he has served as Entrepreneur in Residence and CapVenture coach supporting Georgia’s Advanced Technology Development Center (ATDC). McGonnigle holds a BS in mechanical engineering from the University of Virginia.

 

Hunter Newby

 

Hunter Newby
Chief Executive Officer, Allied Fiber

Hunter Newby is a twelve year veteran of the telecom networking industry. He has built a depth of creative and management experience and expertise in multiple disciplines within the field ranging from sales, marketing and technical aspects to network engineering and raising capital.

Prior to founding Allied Fiber, Mr. Newby was Chief Strategy Officer of the Telx Group, Inc., one of the leading carrier hotel interconnection facility operators in the U.S. Telx was founded in 2000 to address the need for a neutral environment for colocation and interconnection for all network operators. Mr. Newby led the direction of the company into this new dimension of the communication networking industry that had previously never existed. Under Mr. Newby’s direction, Telx successfully created an entirely new business model and built the strongest brand name in the world for carrier-neutral core interconnection facilities.

During his tenure at Telx, Mr. Newby participated in management meetings with investors continually assisting in the capital raising process to fund the business as it grew. Through his role at Telx as Chief Strategy Officer and ultimately a member of the Board, he was directly involved in more than $500 million in transactions between 2003 and 2007. He built and trained an outstanding sales team which produced consistent positive monthly, quarterly and annual revenue growth even through the telecom industry's downturn in the early 2000’s.

Mr. Newby led not only the strategy of the company, but also the industry. Mr. Newby is well known in the Carrier Hotel Interconnection business and is also a recognized authority on Ethernet transport and Voice Peering.

Mr. Newby has been involved with various industry councils and publications, including the Pacific Telecommunications Council (Vice Chairman of PTC Advisory Council), VON (Advisory Board Member), the International Engineering Consortium (Board Member), TMC - Internet Telephony Magazine monthly columnist and IP Business Magazine contributing editor. Mr. Newby received Bachelor’s degree in Communications from Drexel University.

 

Gordon Rogers
Atlanta Technology Angels

Gordon is an economist, entrepreneur and angel investor. After working as a financial analyst, in 1988 he established a business (Meliora Systems, Inc.) that created one of the pioneering products in the corporate e-learning & talent management field (Ingenium). He guided the growth of the company from a start-up to IPO through a merger in 1998 with Paul Allen's company, Asymetrix Learning Systems (ASYM). This exit event yielded a 12X return for initial investors in the business.

After leaving ASYM/CLKS/SUMT in 2000, he spent the next several years investing in and serving on the advisory boards of various tech startups in the e-learning and online coaching sectors. He now focuses primarily on helping early stage ventures in the the digital media and edutainment sectors raise capital and create strategic partnerships.

In addition to ATA, he's a member of Angel Lounge (http://www.startuplounge.com/tag/angellounge/), the MIT Enterprise Forum, the Atlanta Venture Forum, and the Atlanta CEO Council. He is also Managing Director of Vernon Bridge Ventures, an early stage capital/advisory firm. He serves on the boards of Rapid LD and Good Egg Studios.

He has extensive experience serving on boards of non-profit organizations (YMCA of Greater Atlanta, Interfaith Outreach Home, Teacher Support Network, The Lionheart School). He received the 2006 Volunteer of the Year Award from the YMCA of Metro Atlanta. He recently completed his first Olympic distance triathlon to raise money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

 

Alan Urech
Stoney River Capital

Mr. Alan Urech is a Senior Executive with over 25 years experience successfully developing and commercializing entrepreneurial businesses. He supports the growth of businesses by using his strong strategic, tactical and operational leadership skills, proven methodologies and best practice expertise. His support enables Stoney River Capital Partner’s (SRCP) client organizations to understand and methodically implement resource and team strategies during different business growth stages.

His background includes HBO & Company where he was part of a team that saw the organization’s expansion from an initial start-up of under $3 million to over $180 million dollars in revenue within 12 years. During this period, Mr. Urech was instrumental in developing very successful healthcare product lines which significantly expanded the Company’s overall profitability. HBOC was sold in 1998 for US$13.8 billion to McKesson Corporation, starting their information technology division.

Mr. Urech is Managing Partner and Principal at Stoney River Capital Partners LLC, an Angel-backed consultancy with over 17 direct partners. He provides senior level management consulting on investment funding strategies, corporate growth planning and plan implementation, business directions and exit strategies to young viable entrepreneurial seed, start-up and expanding companies. His goal is to help them successfully communicate and transition the company’s business proposition from successful product/service commercialization through harvest. SRCP cultivated over 200 capital sources that places investments into high growth companies.

Mr. Urech is an Instructor in Georgia State University’s J. Mack Robinson College of Business. He instructs Graduate and Undergraduate level programs in entrepreneurship at the Herman J. Russell, Sr. International Center for Entrepreneurship.

Mr. Urech is currently on numerous Boards including Blank Stage Productions, NuVision Pharmaceuticals, TAG Health, MIT Forum (Atlanta) Programs, Georgia State University Health Advisory Board, Digitainment Georgia and the Stage2 Business Accelerator. He has written a column entitled “Entrepreneurs’ Corner” for the Business Post, an Appen Newspaper. He is a frequent judge in numerous Business Plan competitions including the Georgia Bowl and the international Moot Bowl in Austin,TX, where 40 countries compete. Mr. Urech worked with the Vatican in Vatican City for five years in Information Technology while being the volunteer president of the council in the Saint Vincent de Paul Society of North Georgia. His focus at the Vatican was to leverage emerging internet technologies.
