Ron Hutchins

CTO & Associate Vice Provost - Georgia Tech

Ron Hutchins is Associate Vice Provost for Research and Technology and Chief Technology Officer, Office of Information Technology, at Georgia Institute of Technology and heads the Academic and Research Technology Department in OIT. He received his Doctor of Philosophy in Computer Science at the Georgia Institute of Technology, and Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and Computer Science at Georgia Southern College. His current fields of interest and development are centered on computer networking, but are divided into four primary facets: production network management; educational collaboration technologies; high-speed large-scale network design and management; and mobile and nomadic computing.

Since 1991, Dr. Hutchins has overseen operations and development of the Georgia Tech computer network, one of the largest academic campus networks in the Southeast. He is technical lead for the Southern Crossroads project, an aggregation of 22 universities, state education networks and research labs in the southeast. Dr. Hutchins has developed innovative collaborations with area schools and learning centers to utilize technology to enhance the learning process. Nomadic computing and remote access are the core of his doctoral research.
